Inflammation is our body’s natural reaction to injury or infection.  The affected tissues may swell, redden, and become warm, tender and even painful. . This is the body’s way of getting more nourishment by providing blood supply which produces more immune activity into an area that needs to fend off infection or heal.  Any tissue or organ of the body can become inflamed. However, systemic chronic inflammation can wreak havoc on the body and promote illness.

There are two types of inflammation: external and internal. External inflammation is what most are familiar with; for example, from an injury. Internal inflammation is often caused by bacterial infection as well as autoimmune disease, allergies, arthritis, asthma, Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel disorders, and auto-intoxication.

Many times chronic inflammation goes unnoticed for years but eventually may lead to serious illness including heart disease, arthritis, asthma, skin disorders, stroke, cancer, diabetes, sleep and mood disorders,  and Alzheimer’s. Recent evidence indicates that whole-body inflammation may also contribute to psychological disorders, especially depression.

Whole-body inflammation refers to chronic, imperceptible, low-level inflammation.  Systemic inflammation has a very harmful and destructive effect on the body. Mounting evidence suggests that over time this kind of inflammation sets the foundation for many serious, age-related diseases. This we see when the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues in (autoimmune) diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, psoriasis, and lupus.

Chronic inflammation is influenced by constant stress, diet, genetics, a sedentary lifestyle, and exposure to environmental toxins.

What We Put In Our Mouth

Everything that w eat can have a huge impact on our health; it can be beneficial– nourishing our body, strengthening our immune system and fueling our body with nutrients it needs; or it can be poisonous– slowly killing us literally, damaging our cells, producing disease, and living our life in a pro-inflammatory state.

One of the key things to do to counteract chronic inflammation is to stop eating refined, processed and manufactured foods.

The Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Although it is not a weight-loss diet, many do loose weight when they follow it. Its designed to help rid you body of inflammation by eating a variety of fresh and delicious foods.

Eating  anti-inflammatory foods provides us with  balanced amounts of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Most people consume an excess of omega-6 fatty acids, which the body uses to synthesize compounds that promote inflammation. Snack foods and fast foods are high in omega 6 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids – from oily fish, walnuts, flax, hemp, chia seeds, to name a few, have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. This is what we want, to consume a variety of foods that have natural anti-inflammatory properties. Eating foods in there most natural state is key. Choosing our fruits and vegetables based on color, full of phytonutrients and antioxidant.

Include in your diet:  whole grains, beans, sweet potatoes, winter squashes, green leafy vegetables  and fruits such as apples, berries, cherries, citrus, pineapple,  and papaya. Spices such as: Ginger, Garlic, Oregano, Tumeric (Curcumin), and Cayenne and powerful anti-inflammatory impacts on the body as well.

As far as protein is concerned, consume vegetable  proteins such as (edemame, soy foods, beans, lentils and other legumes),  whole grains, seeds, and nuts and  eat less meat and poultry, both of which contain pro-inflammatory fats. Choose the oily varieties of fish that give you omega-3s (wild Alaska salmon, sardines, herring, and black cod).

Weight Loss Benefits

Want to know how to help your metabolism keep burning fat instead of storing it? Many people loose weight whether they followed this program for that reason or not.imagesCAKKU302

By eating low-glycemic meals, eating lean protein with healthy fats, drinking plenty of water, and having high quantities of fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables all contribute to increased metabolism, and stabilize your blood sugar. This means few or no cravings for what you shouldn’t be eating, increased energy levels, better sleep quality, weight loss, and of course decreased systemic inflammation which equals decreased pain or “flare ups” for those who are suffering constant pain.
