Detoxify: What You Should Be Doing During Your Detox

Detox

So your detoxing eh?

Detoxing is a great time to take a step back and take care of yourself. It’s not only a time to make changes to your diet and take supplements to cleanse your insides, but it is a an opportune time to be mindful about certain things that will be good for you both mentally and energetically as well. In other words, it’s time to detox your life! Clear the clutter and the negativity for a fresh start or reset. Below are some tips on how you can lower stress levels and benefit the most during your detox.
  1. Aromatherapy Bath – Soothe your senses with an Aromatherapy bath. Bathing is a time to just relax and let go. Plus, by adding pure essential oils and salts to the bath water you are assisting your body with the natural detoxification process. Some enjoy a quiet bath, but if you enjoy playing some relaxing music, that is good too. Aromatherapy baths benefit both the body and mind.Aromatherapy Bathtime

Stress Relieving Bath Bath

Mix in a jar and pour mixture into warm bath water right before getting in. Soak for 20 minutes and relax!

  1. Take a Hike – Or just get outdoors. Being outside in nature is good for you. Nothing better for clearing a cluttered mind like going for a walk outdoors. This is a great time for meditation and reflection.
  2. Stretch it Out – Incorporate a stretching routine. Some benefit from yoga. No matter what you do, stretching relaxes tense muscles and can decrease pain, tension and reduce stress. 1. Breathe- Being mindful of our breath is vital as we want to live healthy lives. Try this breathing exercise to encourage relaxation and lowering our stress-

Learn belly breathing with the following steps:

  • Sit down comfortably, or lay down on a yoga mat, depending on your personal preference.
  • Place one of your hands on your stomach, just below your rib cage. Place the second hand over your chest.
  • Breathe in deeply through your nostrils, letting your first hand be pushed out by your stomach. You should find that your chest stays stationary.
  • Breathe out through your lips, pursing them as if you were about to whistle. Gently guide the hand on your stomach inwards, helping to press out the breath.
  • Slowly repeat between 3 and 10 times.
  1. Read- Give your brain a good workout. Similarly, to how jogging increases cardiovascular health, not only does reading make you smarter, but it also boosts your brain power. Reading can be therapeutic while improving your memory and also reducing stress.book

As Dr. Seuss once wrote, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

  1. Clean Your Home- A clean home really is a happy home. Get rid of the clutter and welcome the renewed energy and happiness in your home. Buildup in the home promotes stagnant-energy and isn’t good for the health. Open the windows, dust the furniture, clear the air, do what it takes to feel the clarity of a clean home.

Keep an Aromatherapy Diffuser in the room and use Essential Oils such as: Bergamot, Grapefruit, lemon, Orange, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Spruce and Lavender to purify the air. You can also try Fresh Air Eternity Blend.

  1. Detox Your Contact List- Who are the people that you are surrounding yourself with? In order to live a healthy, happy, and positive life, you have to surround yourself with people who promote just that.
  2.  Get a Massage- Not only can professional massage therapy relieve stress and decrease pain, it also may aid the body with detoxification as it helps to stimulate lymphatic flow.

Other benefits include:

  • Decreased anxiety
  • Enhanced sleep quality
  • Greater energy
  • Improved concentration
  • Increased circulation
  • Reduced fatigue

Why Detox to Lose Weight?

Why Detox to lose Weight you ask? Here are some questions to ask yourself:

detox your body

  • Do you have stable energy and vitality, everyday?
  • Do you feel well-rested and healthy to take on the day?
  • Have you achieved optimal body composition, and are you happy with your weight?
  • Do you feel sluggish or foggy, like you’re being “weighed down”?

If you answered No to any of these questions, then it’s time to detox.

Detoxing is for everyone, because without detoxing it’s highly unlikely that you’re performing to your best ability — even if you feel healthy. This is due to the external and internal toxins that build up in our bodies over time; which are caused by diet and lifestyle, as well as everyday environmental exposure. In order to perform at its peak the body needs to be cleansed of these toxins periodically. Detoxification is the process of removing these harmful substances from the body, in a safe and healthy manner.

Do you know what is in your food? No matter how hard we try to “eat healthy” our food is not the same quality as it was decades ago. http://www.psr.org/assets/pdfs/toxic-chemicals-in-our-food.pdf

To fully comprehend the many benefits of detoxing, it’s crucial to understand how toxins affect our bodies, and why it’s so important to cleanse the body of these pollutants. When there is an overabundance of toxins in our bodies it places excessive stress on our detoxifying organs (the liver, gallbladder, kidneys and digestive system). This can lead to poor digestion, weight gain, headaches, low energy and the inadequate absorption of nutrients — because like any filter, the liver and its’ supporting detox organs need to be cleansed regularly for normal functioning. If you don’t flush your body of toxins any healthy foods or lifestyle changes you implement won’t have the full effects that they should, despite your best efforts.

In addition to removing toxins from the body, detoxing also promotes general wellbeing. Purifying your body of contaminants assists with improving metabolism, curbing cravings and jumpstarting weight loss. In a study for the Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine Journal on the effects of short term detoxification, researchers found that participants had a “23% increase in liver detoxification capacity… There was an increase in the urinary sulfate-to creatinine ratio after treatment, indicating a trend toward improved liver function”[1].

Detoxing also helps repair the immune system, increase energy, slow premature aging and improve mental clarity. Restore balance to your body’s systems and detox your way to a better, healthier you. Put your best foot forward today with a revitalizing detox.

To aid in detoxification our body needs assistance.

4 Super Drinks to Help Detox

Smoothie Ingredients

4 Beverages to have while Detoxing

I wanted to share with you all 4 of my favorite beverages that you can incorporate into your detox week to enhance detoxification.  You will feel energized, hydrated and the incredible benefits of what it does inside your body will also appear on the outside. Everything starts from the inside.

During detox week, our goal is to infuse nutrients into our body to promote cleansing and maintain good health. By adding these healthy beverages we will load our body’s with enzymes, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants while flushing out toxins and impurities accumulated over time. These organic waters are not only meant to be used for detox week, but can be enjoyed anytime.

First thing in the morning is best to start the day, but they can be consumed any time of the day. You can chop fruits and vegetables the night before and put in a container in the refrigerator if that will help you save some time. I try to keep it simple as I am always on the go and I know many of you are as well. By just reorganizing our morning routine a little, you will be amazed at how you look and feel!

I usually make my smoothie or juice first thing when I wake up, that way I can drink it while I get ready for the day. Do what works for you and your schedule, as long as you get it done. We each have to find a way that works for us to make time for our health in small, simple steps.

Heres my top 4

  1. Fenny’s Deluxe Detox Smoothie
  2. Green Lemonade
  3. Ultimate Aloe on the go
  4. Warm Lemon Water

The last 2 on the list are the simplest, that you can incorporate any time, especially if your short in time. They are not meant to replace the top 2. They can be used in conjunction with. Also, these are not meant to replace a meal; they are meant to use in addition by adding super nutrients into our diet.

Ok, now back to the detox drinks…

A little about our ingredients, and why I chose them:

Cucumber: Helps to alkaline the body, is highly hydrating, full of B vitamins, silica, and electrolytes that help build clearer, brighter skin.

Celery: Very alkaline, packed with vitamins and minerals.  Celery is a powerful detoxifier and colon cleanser.

Apple: High in Pectin which is a powerful enzyme that helps protect against metabolic syndrome, and maintains healthy gut bacteria. According to traditional Chinese medicine: Red apples protect the heart and vessels. It also reduces the content of lipids as well. Green apples are probably the most beneficial. Although representing the liver, they are said to detoxify the inner body, promote teeth and bones growth, and help fight depression. Yellow apples help protect eyesight. An apple a day really does keep the doctor away!

Pears: Pears are wonderful for the skin and supportive of both the lungs and the colon. Contains many nutrients such as: vitamins C, E, B, and K, copper, manganese, potassium, iron, magnesium, selenium, calcium, zinc, and folate.

Banana: Promotes good digestion, prevents constipation, and contributes to healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Contains vitamin B6 and magnesium which help promote better sleep. Bananas also have fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin A.

Lemon: Cleansing to the digestive tract, liver and gallbladder. Very alkaline, are high in vitamin C, and traces of calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Lemons are a powerful detoxifying agent. They support liver function, purify the blood, destroy free radicals and toxins, and  flush out bacteria Great as a weight loss aid.

Ginger: A great tonic, stimulates blood circulation, has warming properties, eases nausea, a powerful digestive aid, is anti-inflammatory, strengthens immune system, and fights common respiratory problems.

Cayenne Pepper: An incredibly potent spice, cayenne pepper is often used to detoxify and cleanse the body (mostly due to capsaicin). It has anti-cold/flu properties, aids in digestion, has anti-fungal properties, helps discourage formation of blood clots, supports weight-loss, promotes heart health, and aids in joint-pain relief.

Parsley: A powerful detoxifier, parsley aids digestion, removes toxins from the body, acts as a diuretic by flushing out the kidneys, and purifies the blood. It contains vitamin A, C, and E, folate, iron, and anti-oxidants.

Berries: Contain powerful Antioxidants that protect the body by neutralizing free radicals or unstable oxygen molecules, which can damage the cells and are a major source of disease and aging.

Pineapple: Bromelain! Super enzyme that is used for reducing inflammation, especially after a surgery or injury. It is also used for preventing muscle soreness after intense exercise. Also assist with connective tissue healing, Bromelain also contains chemicals that interfere with the growth of tumor cells and slow blood clotting.

The Key to Wellness is Awareness

A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools.

We had a fantastic turnout at our wellness class! This is where my passion lies is to teach others about the benefits of Alternative Health and how they can use this information for self care and to take care of their families. In an industry based on “sick care” and primarily treating symptoms, and not the cause of disease, it’s no wonder people are reaching out and looking for other methods to prevent illness in the first place.

Here’s a brief summary of our wellness class:

In our class we learned about how the body works in terms of detoxification and how healthy cells do it naturally on a daily basis. Sometimes it just needs a little assistance from diet and botanical’s so that our system doesn’t get overloaded and cause problems in the future. Up to 80% of all processes of the human body are for detoxification. This means that 80% of a person’s physical health picture comes from their ability to efficiently detoxify and eliminate waste, but if the toxins are too much, it needs some help.

Supplementation these days is NOT an option if you want to stay healthy. There have been many studies done proving that our nutrients we get from our food is not the same as it was 50 years ago, actually up to 40% lower in many essential nutrients that we need for our body to even function optimally. This is basically saying that a whole broccoli now is like a small piece of broccoli back then. Our bodes to not make vitamins, and depending on getting it from our foods is obviously not enough. If we do not make it, we NEED to take it! The best way is through an Isotonic Delivery System.

We also learned about the amazing benefits of powerful antioxidants called OPCs and how they combat damaging free radicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis.

Prevention does not rely on just getting an annual visit to check your status, prevention is what you do in between those visits. Are you having a healthy lifestyle? Eating clean? Exercising? Supplementing to fill in the gaps in your diet? Surrounding yourself with positive influences and removing negativity in your life? That is prevention.

Are you taking the steps to a healthier you? Don’t know where to start? Hire a coach.

H2o -Lets Make Water Fun!

Your body is composed of about 60% water…don’t you think it might be important?!

Water is essential, meaning we cannot live without it. It plays a vital role in maintaining the pH balance of the body, metabolic processes, delivering useful products and clearing waste products, and is essential for all major organ systems of the body to function properly.

A number of disorders are related to water deficiency:Cucumber water

Kidney stones

Digestive disorders-constipation, acid reflux, gastritis

Migraines

Skin Breakouts

Here are more benefits of drinking enough water:

1. Weight Loss Water is essential for a healthy metabolism and sometimes when we feel hungry, drinking a glass of water can curb your appetite. Sometimes our body is asking for a little hydration. If our body is dehydrate we will start to retain water.

2. Beauty- Want a more supple complexion that glows? Dehydration makes your skin look more dry and wrinkled, which can be improved with proper intake of water.

3. Detoxification- Our body detoxifies on a regular basis through our major detoxifying organs (Liver, Kidneys, Colon, Lymphatic System, Skin), however without enough water, our body cannot detoxify the way its suppose to.

While most commercial brands are full of artificial sweeteners, artificial colors,  high amounts of sugar and full of chemicals, you can mix up an entire pitcher of water at home naturally with just a few ingredients.  Using fresh fruits, and herbs is not only refreshing, but it also has added  benefits. Cucumbers for example helps to balance ph. Lemons are very detoxifying. The list goes on and on, but this will add variety and will only do good for your body, not harm.

Here are some recipes to make water fun:

Try some of these unique mixes. Add the ingredients to a pitcher of water and allow to soak. The longer it sits in the water, the more flavor it will extract. You do not need to strain.

  • Honeydew Melon/Lime
  • fruit waterCucumber slices
  • Orange slices
  • Strawberry/Basil- Scrunch a few fresh basil leaves and strawberries (cut in halves) to release flavor & squish a little with a spoon.
  • Blackberry-Cucumber Water
  • cucumber mint
  • watermelon (aprox 3/4cups)
  • Lemon/cucumber/mint
  • Raspberry-Lime
  • honeydew, cantaloupe, and cucumber
  • raspberry-mint
  • peaches & berries

Want to make sure you have the purest, clean water? Try the PureH2O Countertop Water Filter

PureH2O Countertop Water Filter Benefits of PureH2O Countertop Water Filter:

  • Produces great-tasting water
  • Reduces chlorine taste and odor, and other contaminants that municipal water supplies don’t
  • Easy installation at a fraction of the cost of bottled water
  • Eliminates the waste generated from plastic water bottles
  • Features a dual-filter system using a combination of carbon filtration, ion exchange and  sub-micron filtration
  • Helps maintain healthy pH levels
  • Enhances mineral balance

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do! Lets keep working together toward total wellness!

How do you like your water? I would love to hear your thoughts.
